Letters, speeches, and newspaper clippings, originating from Columbia and Spartanburg County, S.C., various Confederate camps in Va., N.C., and elsewhere; topics include Moore's life as a student, a Confederate soldier, a promoter of railroads, and politician. Letters, 1862-1865, from Moore to overseer Thomas W. Hill; several letters from Andrew Charles Moore describing life at S.C. College, including, 24 Feb. 1855 (Columbia, S.C.), to his mother, Nancy Miller Moore, re life at S.C. College, and the Clariosophic and Euphradian literary societies, "upcountrymen & lowcountrymen join the Clariosophic, those from the central districts the Euphradian," and arrangement of furniture in Clariosphic Hall, where he had just returned from breakfast, describing celebration of George Washington's birthday in the city, describing inmates at the S.C. Lunatic Asylum, and commenting "This is the greatest place for robbers I have ever been at." Regulations, 1858, governing students at the Thalian Academy. Letter, 14 Dec. 1873, Columbia, to wife Mary Elizabeth Anderson Moore, re sightseeing in Charleston, railroad convention, meeting with the Italian agent of the New York Colonization Society potential for silk manufacture in S.C.; letter, 20 Jan. 1882, Columbia, S.C., to M.E.A. Moore, re hire of convict labor and Greenville, Spartanburg and Laurens Rail Road; letter, 6 Jan. 1886, Hamburg, S.C., from B.R. Tillman, re unionization of farmers, and soliciting support for farmers' convention; speech, 21 Sept. 1888, re "Cattle Raising" delivered to Fairfield Farmers' Institute. Six manuscripts, 1874, 1877-1879, 1893, and 1901, comprise a record of apples, pears, peaches, figs, grapes, strawberries, and other fruit-bearing plants set out in Moore's Spartanburg County, South Carolina, orchard, together with notations on the placement of plants and time of harvest. Letter, 6 Aug. 1890, Columbia, S.C., from William Elliot Gonzales, re Moore's appointment as delegate to the Farmers' National Congress, Council Bluffs, Ia.; 2 essays, 13 Dec. 1908, re Nazareth Presbyterian Church, tombstone inscriptions; undated speeches, "Woman-her power for good or evil"; "Missions of the Highest Duty of the Christian and Africa as a Field"; and "Some Experiences with Upcountry River Bottoms," re Moore's efforts to reclaim river and creek bottom lands for cattle and rice culture.
